Cody & Christy Kerr - Collegiate Shag

Cody started dancing in 2009 in Lexington, KY, beginning with Lindy Hop and Balboa. Christy began with ballroom dancing in Anchorage, AK in 2004, but after seeing a couple dancing Lindy Hop and a follower doing some vicious swivels, she became a convert to swing dancing and never looked back. Cody and Christy met dancing in Lexington, and eventually married; now they pursue dancing interests together in their new home in Spokane, Washington.
After living in Spokane for several months and having a surprising lack of swing dancing for such a large city, they started Strictly Swing Spokane in 2015. Since day one they have had tremendous success teaching weekly lessons with regular dances of 50-100+ dancers! They fervently teach Lindy, Balboa, Charleston, Solo Jazz, and Collegiate Shag, with Collegiate Shag being one of their most popular classes. Now the Inland Northwest has one of the fastest growing Collegiate Shag scenes in the US, and it is supported by their workshop, the Inland Empire Shuffle, which happens again next year on March 16-18, 2018. Collegiate Shag is experiencing a worldwide revival, and it is essential to add to your vintage swing dance repertoire! Now, they are returning to their old stomping grounds to share this fast growing dance with the Midwest, and they look forward to seeing you there!

James & Emily Benze
Beginner Lindy Hop, Beginner Charleston, "Doin The Jive" Jazz dance

James Benze has been dancing since late 2009. Since then he's become a lover of jazz music, and dancing musically...he'd always rather a dance be stupid and fun over "looking cool". He dances all kinds of swing, and is a big believer of switching between multiple styles whenever the music demands it. He can't wait to be teaching for his first time at Smorgasboard of Swing!

Emily started swing dancing at the University of Dayton in 2010, and immediately fell in love. She has been avidly dancing ever since. She has taught at regional events, such as Anderson Lindy and Blues Exchange and Dayton Swing Smackdown, as well as in her local scene, Gem City Swing in Dayton, OH. She enjoys teaching, dancing, and travelling, and hopes to get all new dancers to love swing dancing as much as she does!

Bryan Sykes & Amanda Guieb
Blues Connection

Bryan got his introduction to blues dance at 2008 BluesSHOUT in Chicago. Bryan teaches and DJs regularly at regional Blues and swing events and is the founder of Blues Dance Cincinnati. In his teaching, Bryan enjoys emphasizing the connection between partners; helping them to learn to not only make the dance look good, but to also make it feel good. Bryan majored in education and communication and strives to be attentive to his student's experience level and their learning styles. Expect to be taught concepts through moves that, while taught in the context of blues dance, will influence and help improve all your partnered dances.
